ANALYSIS OF THE OPENING SEQUENCE OF SKYFALL

SKY FALL OPENING SCENE ANALYSIS

In the opening scene of the film Sky fall, the use of the non-diegetic background music signifies that tension is building up and something quite serious might occur in the up coming seconds. This sense of tension and seriousness is deepened as the way we follow 007 from behind as he carefully walks through the dusty building surrounded by dead bodies which on its own symbolises danger. The way the camera is used from behind brings the audience with him and its makes us feel that bond is protecting us.
Although we know Bond has a license to kill he ignores the diegetic command from Ma'am and states "I must stop the bleeding" which shows he cares more about saving good people and killing bad people. The subject of the hardrive becomes more important when he realises its missing. This is enhanced with an eye line close up signifying that it is majorly important which at this point the music starts to liven up again, becoming more serious and now at its highest beat which reveals that something may occur,  immediately linking with the dark back lighting while he walks out the building but this tension suddenly halts when the live hustle and bustle Istanbul appears with the strong sunlight squinting the audiences eyes.
Mendes uses the over the shoulder shot when bond enters the land rover in a way where we are following him and he is showing true courage in hunting the criminal down. on several occasions we see frequent over the shoulder shots of bond which is permitted to show the audience Bonds direct eye-view which expresses a great deal of thrill in a very tense period of the movie.

During the car chase he use of the cross cutting presents the audience with a clear perspective of the contrast between the busy streets of Istanbul in the central market compared with the smart, cool and calmness of the MI6 in  London
while the car chase in progress we hear hooting of car horns to represent the intensity of the car chase. Not only the car horns, the screams and cries from civilians they try to get out of the cars way.
